The outlined areas, which group counties within the state map, represent the public health areas (PHAs). The Alabama Department of Public Health is divided into eleven PHAs, each including six to eight counties, except for Jefferson and Mobile counties which make up one PHA each.

1 Laboratory-confirmed case = influenza case confirmed by rapid diagnostic test, antigen detection, culture, or PCR.
